At The Ready Installation Video

How do you install an At The Ready mount?

You can install an At The Ready mount two ways: with the included mounting screws, or with the VHB tape on the back of the mount and the included primer. Watch the two-minute video above, then follow the instructions in your box. Proper installation is what keeps the mount solid.

What comes in the box?

Every mount comes with mounting screws, VHB adhesive tape and primer, plus installation steps and warranty information. Have a screwdriver ready if you use the screws, plus an alcohol wipe or a clean cloth with rubbing alcohol to clean the surface.

How do you find the right spot?

Test the spot with your empty pistol in the mount, from your normal seat, before anything is stuck or screwed down.

  1. Clear your pistol: remove the magazine and check that the chamber is empty.
  2. Seat the empty pistol in the mount and hold the mount where you plan to install it.
  3. From your normal driving position, check that you can take a full grip without leaning out of your seat.
  4. Keep the mount and the pistol clear of airbags, pedals and controls. Your owner's manual shows where the airbags are, including any knee airbags in the lower dash.
  5. Make sure you won't bump the mount getting in or out, and that there is room to draw.
  6. If your knee touches the grip, the angled mount adapter ($14.99, right- or left-handed) angles the mount away from your knee.
  7. Mark the spot lightly so the mount goes exactly where you tested it.

Should you use the screws or the tape?

In a vehicle, use the screws, or use the tape together with the included primer rather than the tape alone. The screws give a mechanical hold where the panel can take them; tape with primer avoids screw holes but needs a clean, dry surface.

How long before you can use a taped mount?

Give it time to bond before you put your pistol in it. 3M rates VHB tape at full bond strength after about 72 hours at room temperature, so a taped mount is strongest if you wait that long. Press it firmly into place when you install it, and let the primer dry first as your instructions describe.

What should you do after installing?

Practice with an unloaded pistol before you use the mount loaded. With the magazine out and the chamber empty, seat the pistol and draw it many times, until your hand goes to the grip without thinking.

How do you install the Lazy Barrel Mount?

The Lazy Barrel Mount attaches three ways: with its magnets on steel, with screws on wood (including the tree in your tree stand), or with 3M tape. Its magnets don't hold to aluminum, so use screws or tape on aluminum, wood or plastic.
